Louisa Alcott's first book was published when she was twenty. Little Women, her first book for children, appeared twelve years later in 1868. The story, about a family called March, was based on things that had happened to Louisa herself, her sisters and her parents. The book was popular at once and has remained popular ever since. Louisa wrote many other famous books including some further adventures of the March family which were Little Women, Part Two (which was called Good Wives in the United Kingdom) (1869), Little Men (1871) and Jo's Boys (1886). You can still buy all these books today. It is said that no other book for girls has been read as much as Little Women and it has been translated into many languages. See CATHERINE O.
