Aldrin, Edwin (1930- ), astronaut, colonel US Air Force, b. New Jersey, USA.

'Buzz' Aldrin, with Neil Armstrong, made the first landing on the Moon in the lunar module Eagle at 9.18 pm GMT on 20 July, 1969.

They landed at the Sea of Tranquillity and went out to explore the surface of the Moon and collect samples of rock.
