Sir J M BarrieBarrie, Sir James Matthew (1860-1937), writer, b. Kirriemuir, Scotland.

Barrie started writing for a newspaper in Nottingham. Then he moved to London and began writing novels and plays.

In 1904 he wrote Peter Pan. It at once became a favourite with children and the play is still produced each year in London.

Barrie loved children. He gave his earnings from Peter Pan to The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London.

Every time the play is performed, or a copy of the book is sold, some money is paid to the hospital.

There is a statue of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, London, by Sir George Frampton.
