Written by historicalpeople.net

Colonel Thomas BloodBlood, Colonel Thomas (about 1618-80), soldier, b. Ireland.

Blood fought for Oliver Cromwell in the English Civil War. For this, Charles II took his lands away from him, and afterwards Blood joined in many plots against the King-all unsuccessful.

On 9 May, 1671 Blood disguised himself as a priest and with three companions, entered the Tower of London. Their aim was to steal the Crown Jewels. They overpowered the keeper and made off with the crown and the orb but they were seen by a guard. He called for help and the four men were captured.

Afterwards, Blood was pardoned by the King. He was set free and given back his lands.

Some people said, 'The King admires a bold rascal.' Other people believed Blood had done some plotting for the King.
