Edward Benjamin BrittenBritten, Edward Benjamin (1913-1976), composer, b. Lowestoft, Suffolk, England.

Benjamin Britten learned to play the piano as a boy and won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music.

He started writing music as a student there and he went on to produce a wide range of works including a number of operas.

Especially for children he has written The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, Let's Make an Opera and Noye's Fludde.
