Caruso, Enrico (1873-1921), Italian opera singer.

Caruso was one of the greatest tenor singers who has ever lived.

He sang in leading opera houses all over the world and, in his day, was as famous as a modern pop idol.

In 1902 he made the first gramophone record to sell one million copies. It was of Vesti la giubba (On with the Motley) an aria from the Italian opera, I Pagliacci.
