Daimler, Gottlieb

Daimler, Gottlieb (1834-1900), German engineer.

With Karl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler is regarded as the 'father of the motor car'.

He and Wilhelm Maybach designed a light-weight petrol engine in 1883.

They first tried it out in a motor cycle and then, in 1886, produced the motor car.
