David, Saint |
| Written by historicalpeople.net | |||
David's father was probably the chief of a Celtic tribe. David went to school in a monastery and became a monk. Afterwards, he travelled in Wales and western England preaching. He founded twelve monasteries and was Bishop of South Wales. His most famous monastery was at Vallis Rosina, which is now called St. David's. He was buried there and, in the Middle Ages, his tomb was known as one of the holiest places in Europe. Pilgrims made long journeys to pray there. St. David's day is March 1st and on this date Welsh people everywhere celebrate.
