EisenhowerEisenhower, Dwight David (1898-1969), American president and general.

Dwight D. Eisenhower left West Point Military Academy in 1915 and was a general in the Second World War (1939-45).

He commanded the Allied Forces that invaded Europe on D-Day, 6 June, 1944.

He was elected President of the United States in 1952, and again in 1956.

He retired in 1961 at the age of seventy, the oldest president in United States history before Ronald Reagan.

He was a popular person, and was known as 'Ike'.
