Evelyn, John

Evelyn, John (1620-1706), writer, b. Wotton, near Dorking, Surrey, England.

John Evelyn wrote a number of books, but he is famous because of the diary he kept.

His many works cover the years from 1640 to 1706 and they describe notable events and important people of his time which included the Civil War, the period when Oliver Cromwell was Lord Protector, and the Restoration of Charles II.
