Grey, Lady Jane |
| Written by historicalpeople.net | |||
Lady Jane Grey, a great grand-daughter ot King Henry VII, was Queen of England for nine days at the age of sixteen. Edward VI said she was to be his successor. He did not want his half-sister, Mary I, to become queen because she was a Catholic. Three days after Edward's death, on 10 July, 1553, Lady Jane was proclaimed queen. But the noblemen of England supported Mary against her and she was deposed and imprisoned in the Tower of London on 19 July. The following year she and her husband were charged with treason and beheaded. See Ann Rinaldi Nine Days a Queen
