Hammurabi ruled the Babylonian Empire for forty-three years. He is remembered because he drew up a strict set of laws which showed great wisdom. The laws were carved on a stone pillar and this was found at Susa, in present-day Iran, in 1901. It can be seen today in the Louvre Museum, Paris. See Marc Van De Mieroop King Hammurabi of Babylon
