Mare, Walter dela (1873-1956), poet and author, b. Charlton, London. Walter de la Mare's first poems were published while he was working in an office in London. Then he began writing novels, and a story for children, The Three Mulla-Mulgars, published in 1910, helped to make him a success. This story was republished in 1946 as The Three Royal Monkeys. His poems and stories of all kinds were published over a period of fifty years. Many of his poems, including Silver and The Ride-by-Nights, are enjoyed by children and he edited a famous collection of poems for children called Come Hither.
