Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pele, was the greatest soccer player of his time. An inside forward, he was only seventeen when he helped Brazil to win the World Cup in 1958. He helped them to win it again in 1962 and 1970. Pelé scored his 1,000th goal - the highest number of goals ever scored by any player - in his 909th match on 20 November, 1969.
