Pilate, Pontius

Pilate, Pontius (1st century ad), Roman Governor of Judea and Samaria from about ad 26-36.

Pilate was Governor at the time Jesus Christ is said to have been arrested. In the Bible he handed Jesus over to the chief priests and elders of the Jewish people and they crucified him.

Pilate was recalled to Rome in ad 36 for not doing his job properly. He was either beheaded or killed himself.
