Bernard Shaw left Ireland at the age of twenty to make a living in London. He began by writing about the theater for newspapers and later became the greatest playwright of his time in Britain. Among his most famous plays are Major Barbara (1905), Pygmalion (1912) and Saint Joan (1923). After Shaw's death, Pygmalion was turned into the musical, My Fair Lady (1956).
