| Written by historicalpeople.net | |||
Sir Arthur Sullivan is best known for fourteen comic operas. He wrote them in a period of eighteen years working with W. S. Gilbert. He also composed choral works, hymns such as Onward Christian Soldiers, songs like The Lost Chord, and works for the orchestra. He was the first Principal of the National Training College which became the Royal College of Music. He and Gilbert often quarrelled. For a time, they stopped working together after one fierce argument. There is a statue of Sullivan in Victoria Embankment Gardens, London. See Gilbert and Sullivan: A Dual Biography ~ Michael Ainger
