Princess Alexandrina Victoria, niece of King William IV, became Queen of Britain when he died in 1837. She was just over eighteen. She reigned for sixty-four years which is longer than any other British ruler. In 1840, she married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and they had four sons and five daughters. In public matters, Victoria depended a great deal on Prince Albert for advice. He was a far-seeing man who had the idea for the Great Exhibition o f 1851 held in the Crystal Palace, London. This was the first international exhibition to display goods and achievements from many countries and six million people visited it.
